Numeracy

"At Thomas More College each learning area is working towards a common goal to empower our students to be effective numerate citizens and increase their future education and employment opportunities."

At Thomas More College we recognise that while mathematics can be taught in the context of mathematics lessons, the development of numeracy requires experience in the use of mathematics beyond the mathematics classroom, and hence requires an across the curriculum commitment.

Numeracy is regarded as the capacity to bridge the gap between 'mathematics' and the 'real world' by using school mathematics out of school. People are considered more or less numerate based on how well they choose and use the mathematical skills they have in real life situations.

We believe education is at the heart of a life well lived. It is a philosophy we instil in our students and one which underpins our College maxim.
