Learning Diversity

At Thomas More College, we recognise that every student learns differently. Learning Diversity reflects the many ways young people experience difference, including learning needs, cultural and language backgrounds, physical or sensory needs, and social-emotional or mental health challenges.

Inclusive Education

Our Inclusive Education program supports students to feel included, confident and capable. Our team works closely with teachers to identify individual needs and make appropriate adjustments, so students can engage in learning alongside their peers.

Support may be provided for a range of needs, including cognitive, physical, sensory and social-emotional challenges.

Personalised Support

Each student’s support is tailored to their needs. Adjustments are outlined in a Personalised Plan for Learning (PPL), developed in partnership with families to ensure clarity, consistency, and shared goals.

Additional Programs

Targeted programs are available to support student growth, including:

  • Social skills development
  • Literacy and numeracy support
  • Pathways into vocational learning

English as an Additional Language or Dialect

English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) supports students from non-English speaking backgrounds, including those born in Australia, recent arrivals, and long-term residents.

The program builds skills in:

  • Reading, writing, listening and speaking
  • Everyday communication, study and future pathways

At Thomas More College, EALD programs aim to:

  • Develop understanding of how language changes across cultures and contexts
  • Build confidence in choosing appropriate language for different situations
  • Support learning across all subject areas
  • Value each student’s cultural background and identity
  • Strengthen fluency, accuracy and communication skills
  • Foster a positive and enjoyable experience of learning English
